Ina Claire Allen Kelley Collection

Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of a Sam Houston Normal Institue 1910 Alcalde, a Sam Houston State University 100-year celebration of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences postcard invitation, newspaper clippings of a poem and an Ella Smither Geriatric Center advertisement.

The paper materials within this collection were found in the Alcalde upon donation.

Jesse Kinard Burke Photograph Collection

Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of five black and white photographs belonging to Jesse Kinard Burke. Two photographs are of SHNI's graduating class, two are of students and faculty when Burke taught at an institute for teachers, and one is of the students and faculty when Burke was the superintendent of a grade school.

Jewell Phillips Herzog Collection

Scope and Contents

The materials in this collection consist of photographs, letters, college notes and notebooks, a short college diary, instructional books, college certificate, and diplomas belonging to Jewell Phillips Herzog.

A large portion of the collection consists of correspondence in the form of letters between Jewell and a college friend, Ray L. Alexander.

Scope and Contents The May Benson Lyle Scrapbook contains Fifty-six (front and back) unnumbered pages with forty-nine black and white photographs (one each on the front and back covers of the scrapbook) recording May Benson Lyle's time as a student at Sam Houston Normal Institute from 1905-1908. The images in the scrapbook are of campus buildings such as Austin Hall, Old Main Building, and the Peabody Memorial Library. May Dee and Sarah Francis Smith Collection

The May Dee and Sarah Francis Smith Collection contain original materials from the sisters' time at Sam Houston Normal Institue and Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School. The materials from SHNI include diplomas, a Teachers Permanent Certificate, commencement programs, an official transcript, a song booklet, and a faculty portrait collage. The matriculated certificate is from the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School.

The Robert W. Nelson Photographs contains ten black and white photographs circa 1918-1923 of prominent Huntsville sites including early Sam Houston Normal Institute buildings, Sam Houston's Woodland Home, and the fourth Walker County Courthouse. It additionally contains a photograph of two women posing by the side of the Old Main Building.
